PHALNPOX Phanerochaete chrysosporium lignin peroxidase
This is an enzyme produced by certain fungi such as Phanerochaete chrysosporium. Lignin peroxidase (Lip) interacts with lignin polymers involving Veratryl alcohol (Valc). This is a secondary metabolite of white rot fungi and is able to act as a co factor for the enzyme. It is able to catalyze the chemical reaction 1,2-bis(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)propane-1,3-diol + H2O2 \rightleftharpoons 3,4-dimethoxybenzaldehyde + 1-(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)ethane-1,2-diol + H2O. It belongs to the family of oxidoreductases which acts on a peroxidase as an acceptor.
